Charles Hallock, M.A., "Peerless Alaska: Our Cache Near the North Pole," Broadway Publishing Company, 1908. Illustrated by George G. Cantwell. First edition.
Signed and inscribed by Hallock on the front endpaper to Reverend Epher Whitaker, a Presbyterian pastor and historian who resided in Southold, New York for more than 40 years. Hallock himself was a descendent of Peter Holyoke, one of the original settlers of the town in 1640. Illustrations and photographs throughout the book.
All board corners bumped, bottom fore corners slightly rubbed through, some foxing and light soiling at all page edges. Cloth has rubbing along spine, some scratching and rubbing to front board details and titles. Crack in binding at title page, resulting in a couple small tears to tissue protecting frontispiece near binding. Binding otherwise remains sound, text clean. Overall G+. Uncommon in general, scarce signed, and with a great local association.
