(Plants, earth science, agriculture) Student's composition notebook, ca. 1900-1920s, containing numerous drawings of plants and plant cells, each on an individual index card and adhered into the book. The book additionally contains many handwritten notes on the subject. The notebook was used by a student at Greenport High School on eastern Long Island, NY.
First and last pages are heavily tanned, with some silverfishing at corners. Fabric covering on covers is also moderately silverfished, scuffed and discolored throughout, with some peeling on bottom right corner of front, and faded pencil writing on back. Heavy silverfishing in middle of book where stapled binding is visible. Staples are rusted but intact and holding well. Half of the book's pages are blank.
The detail in these pencil sketches is intricate for a student taking notes in science class, and given the age of the notebook, it is fairly well-preserved. A great little snapshot of early 20th century student life in the United States.
