Richard Wilbur, "The Beautiful Changes," Reynal & Hitchcock, 1947. First edition, first printing.
A copy from the first printing of 750 copies. Signed and inscribed by Wilbur as "Dick Wilbur" on the front endpaper. The inscription itself is amusing: "Greetings Shirley,/ I hope you will see some merit in some of these outbursts of mine. If you pass by Stratford, do declaim one or two of them by Shakespeare's grave, + see if he turns over in it."
Jacket worn at all edges and extremities, with some loss at tail of spine and a few small edge tears and light creases. Some surface soiling and wear to rear panel. Slight discoloration at edges of flaps. Now housed in Brodart cover. Board corners bumped, some dust soiling at top page edges. Slight discoloration to spine at head and tail. Overall VG in a G+ jacket. Scarce in this first printing from Reynal & Hitchcock; the second printing did not occur until Harper reissued the book in 1954.
